The Radvocate, a literature & arts zine from San Diego, is now taking submissions for Issue #12! We are a non-profit, un-sponsored zine that features a variety of writing, poetry and art from contributors from all over the world. As usual, there is no theme to this issue, so we accept everything from video game reviews to paper-margin drawings, and beyond. We are looking for your stories, your memoirs, your drawings, your huddled poems yearning to breathe free…as long as you can meet our deadline of April 15th! Check out the website to learn more about it or e-mail email@example.com for more information.
San Diego storytellers! A storytelling master class with Kevin Allison (MTV’s The State, RISK! podcast creator) is coming to your town on March 9th at Finest City Improv.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to select compelling story topics, use the “five beat” structure to build suspense, and tap into the larger thematic meaning of your ideas.
This class encourages participation: everyone will be given the opportunity to apply storytelling techniques to one of their own stories. A few students will be given the opportunity to share aspects of their story live on stage, and receive criticism so that we all can learn together.
Each participant will leave with a 3-minute story that builds upon the principles taught during the class.

A new storytelling night is starting up: Third Sundays at Ken Club on Adams Avenue. This small group of literary renegades meets on the third Sunday of every month at 8 p.m. Each reader has 3-5 minutes to tell a story in any form about any topic. Poetry, short fiction, creative non-fiction, spoken word, a cappella lyrical dissertation — whatever you’re into, we want to hear it. Contact Natalie Jacobs at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info. See you March 16!
