Taking place on Mondays, the Community Writing Residency writing workshop will take place at Braille Institute of America (4555 Executive Dr, San Diego, CA 92121) from January 6th through March 28th, taking off for holidays on January 20th and February 17th. The Community Writing Residency will run from 1PM – 2:30PM. PEN Center USA is seeking a Community Writing Residency Instructor who will fit the needs of the community where they will teach.
In preparation for the Community Writing Residency, the Community Writing Residency Instructor and a Braille Institute representative will attend a mandatory orientation session, which will take place in the San Diego area. Then, working with the Braille Institute representative, the Community Writing Residency Instructor will develop a curriculum with the goal of helping participants complete a solid body of creative writing work.
The Community Writing Residency will culminate with the publication of a participant anthology and a final public reading. PITC instructors are paid a stipend for each writing workshop, as well as for the preparation of the participant anthology.
Throughout the Community Writing Residency, the PEN Center USA office will check in—via e-mail and visits—to document Community Writing Residency progress and challenges.
If you’re interested in becoming the Community Writing Residency Instructor for this upcoming collaboration with Braille Institute, please send resume and introductory e-mail to Michelle Meyering, Director of Programs and Events, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Deadline to apply is Dec 31st at midnight. First class would be held Monday January 6th from 1:00 – 2:30pm and continue each consecutive week until March 28th.
