VAMP: To Grandmother’s House We Go is Thursday 12/29!

Our holiday show! Naughty elves! Lost traditions! Grandmas! Come say good riddance to 2016 with us, and let’s share some stories.

The holidays mean we go home, or maybe we’re the home everyone comes to. Or maybe there’s no home, nobody to come. Sometimes there’s joy. Sometimes there’s loneliness. Sometimes there’s drunk uncles. And sometimes we wonder if we were raised by wolves (dressed in grandmother clothing).

Featuring:
Krisa Bruemmer
Jennifer Campos
Jennifer Coburn
Jessica Friis
Hunter Gatewood
Heidi Handelsman
Justin Hudnall

Produced by Jessica Ripper and Lauren Cusitello.

Black Candies: Gross and Unlikeable Launch and Reading

Join us as we celebrate the release of our ALL WOMEN anthology of literary horror and dark fiction, as well as original art, Black Candies: Gross and Unlikeable.

fullsizerender-6

Gross and unlikeable is reality. Steaming viscera. Menstruation as omen. The sharp blade of a returned violence. The stories in this collection aren’t evoking a theme, but destroying the lie of women tamed, of women just so.

Come hear some of the stories from the collection and feast your eyes upon some deliciously dark artwork. Women. Horror. Gross. Unlikeable. YES.

VAMP: When I’m Sixty-Four is Thursday, 9/29

Our next VAMP storytelling showcase is this Thursday, September 29th, at 8:30 PM at Whistle Stop Bar in South Park.

Aging, relationships, stupidly catchy songs, you name it. Will we be happier when we’re old or will we just keep getting sadder? Come for some stories about the things that happen as we get older, the things that happen to those around us as they get older, and the inevitability of the passage of time.

Featuring:
Amen Ra
Audrey Breay
Chris Onderdonk
Eber Lambert
Frank DiPalermo
Michelle Kerouac
Nancy Cary

Produced by Nichole MacDonald and Eber Lambert.

VAMP: In Real Life is this Thursday

IRL: The internet changes everything. Or does it? Do our online lives matter less than our offline lives? Is there a difference anymore? And what about the times when real people do very unreal things, no internet required? Come join us for stories about real life, about the internet, and about the ways those places intersect or the way they don’t intersect at all. IRL TMI LOL.

San Diego Reader calls it a “Best Bet” event.

VAMP: Minimum Wage is April 28th!

Our next VAMP showcase is coming up at the Whistle Stop Bar in South Park on Thursday, April 28th! The theme is Minimum Wage.

Cubicle dwellers, burger flippers, baristas. Maybe deep down inside you’ve always wanted to be a bike messenger. VAMP: Minimum Wage features stories about those jobs we took because we had to take a job, about being underpaid and overworked or maybe overpaid and underworked, and maybe that one time you did something a little seedy. Money doesn’t grow on trees.

VAMP: Sports! is Thursday March 24th

Some of us are better at sporting than others. Some of us are better at watching other people doing their sporting. And there’s just something vaguely naughty about dressing up in shiny, tight costumes and peacocking around for televised national enjoyment. Sports!

Come listen to stories about athletics going well for us and, of course, the times when our feats of supposed strength didn’t go so well.

**Note: March has 5 Thursdays this year, so this happens to not be the last Thursday of the month. Mark your calendars! Tell your friends!**

Go team. Rah.

Happy Seventh Anniversary, VAMP, you dirty little thing.

Happy 7th anniversary to So Say We All! To commemorate, we are having a special edition of our annual Valentine-antidote show: Dirty Talk. Seven years is a long time and we hope you still think we’re good in the sack, even though we leave our dishes in the sink.

We’ll tell you some sordid, raunchy stories. The dirtiest. About that seven year itch. Or maybe just that itch. Maybe even a little bit about love. Those of you who attended Dirty Talk a few years ago for the alarming and (admit it) delightful Beauty and the Beast piece: Jiavani is coming back and she has something very, very magical in store.

VAMP: 4 AM

Sleeplessness. Quiet. Or maybe not quiet: maybe there’s something going bump in the night. The night is for the seedy, the shameful, the surreptitious, but also the sweet, the let-me-just-stay-ten-more-minutes, and the [redacted]. And that magical time just before the sky starts to lighten, when the bars are closed, the air is chilled, and there’s no hope for getting any sleep.

Join us for an evening of stories about the things we do beneath the cloak of night. The things we do when we can’t sleep.

VAMP Showcase: Red Flags

Join So Say We All this Thursday, August 27th at 8:30 pm for our August VAMP Showcase, featuring curated stories on the theme of “Red Flags.”

Red flags, red lights, red tape. These things are supposed to warn us but sometimes we don’t pay attention. Join us for an evening of stories about gut instincts, warning lights, and that one time we just.didn’t.listen.

Our blind submission process featured more brave and wonderful submissions than we’ve ever seen before. Here’s who got caught in the net this month:

Featuring VAMP first-timers:

  • Becca Karpinski, with an inspiring and, at times, difficult story of travel, risk-taking, and mothering
  • Michelle Franke, PEN USA’s Executive Director, regales us with a tale of class, privilege, period wear
  • Jean Guerrero, from the KPBS Fronteras Desk, with a heartbreaking tale about the past, family, and, naturally, about VHS
  • Rachel Peschman, another VAMP first-timer, with a story of two troubled people navigating a troubled love.

And storytellers who have been on our stage once before, or maybe a dozen times before:

  • Anastasia Zadeik, with a stunning story about loss, memory, and family
  • Long-time VAMP performer and producer Ed Farragut will tell a story about a particularly gnarly work environment
  • So Say We All’s co-founder Jake Arky rolls back into town with an unsettling story about someone he was crazy for
  • and Jennifer Stiff, who has graced our stage several times with her incredibly funny yet intimate stories, with a harrowing tale of preventive measures.

Our Red Flags showcase is produced by Whitney Roux and Matt Lewis.
