The BBC’s Soutik Biswas recently wrote an interesting piece delving into the power of place in storytelling, and motivating storytelling, among Indian writers and their muse: Mumbai. Reading it makes me wonder what aspects of San Diego will be pointed to as recurring inspiration for its writers. The weather of course, there’s always the weather, but what else? The geographic segregation of San Diego’s different ethnic populations, positively spun as “the city of villages?” The hidden parts which make up the majority of the city outside of tourist-friendly destinations like the beaches? The apathy, the struggle to become more in a place slow to change? We’ll see, sooner than later I suspect.
