Submissions are open for VAMP: Flipping the S‘CRIP’T
This October, we’re thrilled to announce a disability-focused edition of our nonfiction, LIVE storytelling showcase– VAMP: Flipping the S'CRIP'T.
Too often disabled stories are filtered through nondisabled actors, writers, or cultural narratives that reduce disability to tragedy, inspiration, or spectacle. VAMP: Flipping the S'CRIP'T is about bringing stories that validate the depth, complexity, humor, grief, creativity, and expertise that already exist within disability communities and creating a space where those experiences can be heard directly, honestly, and without compromise. And we want YOU to submit!
We are seeking 5-10 minute long true stories (~750 - 1500 words) from disabled storytellers who, if selected, will be required to attend 2-3 virtual workshops to refine their pieces in preparation for the final show. Participants will also be assigned a performance coach to help them develop their piece.
We are asking that all submissions be received by midnight, August 31st, 2026 through our Submittable platform.
Accessibility will be part of the artistic process itself, not an afterthought. Our event, happening October 15th at Kairoa Brewing, is wheelchair accessible, near public transportation routes, and equipped with accessible restrooms and accommodations such as ASL interpretation and livestreaming so community members can participate fully.
To produce this event, So Say We All is partnering with San Diego Writers Ink and Jennifer Gasner (she/her), a San Diego memoirist, disability advocate, and full-time wheelchair user who has been actively involved in the local writing community for more than 10 years.
We can’t wait to read your stories! Please email info@sosayweallonline.com if you have any questions!
Submission Deadline: August 31.
