August Long Story Short - “Tore Up”

Sometimes you tear it up in a good way. Tear up the dance floor. Tear up the day, productivity-wise. Tear up a paycheck after a mobile deposit. (So satisfying.)

But then there are times when you get torn up. You go through it. You maybe don’t come out the other side. Or if you do, you’re a changed person.

What does “Tore Up” mean to you? We desperately want to know. So think up a true story, drop your name in the hat, and let’s tear this up.

August VAMP - "My First Rodeo"

There’s a first time for everything, ain’t there? Rodeos don’t exactly hold a monopoly on first-time experiences. Maybe it was your first time trying soft-serve ice cream. Or trying soft-serve ice cream in the middle of an existential crisis. Or having an existential crisis in the middle of a rodeo at which they served soft-serve ice cream.

You know what, let’s leave it to you to figure out the “first time” of it all. Send us your stories on experiencing life one first at a time.

When was the last time you actively pursued a goal? Even if that goal was mustering up the willpower to not eat all of the remaining Wheat Thins in the pantry because you know if you do, it’ll just lead to a passive aggressive argument with your (INSERT COHABITATION PARTNER HERE).

Seriously though, September’s VAMP is all about the indecisive ones. The procrastinators. So like … all of us.

But ”Fish or Cut Bait” is also about clearing the way for others. Learning to let go. Contributing to a shared goal.

Or it’s just some phrase old guys use to confuse children. Either way, hop in the boat and let’s do this.

Sometimes you face certain forces in life that basically behave like the Terminator. They can’t be bargained with, or reasoned with, they don’t feel pity or remorse or fear, and they absolutely will not stop. That’s what “Hell Bent” is all about.

But you know what? Sometimes you’re the one who’s hell bent. Sometime’s you are the unstoppable force.

That’s the spirit.

VAMP - Flipping the S'CRIP'T - True Stories Told by Disabled Storytellers

Too often disabled stories are filtered through nondisabled actors, writers, or cultural narratives that reduce disability to tragedy, inspiration, or spectacle. VAMP: Flipping the S'CRIP'T is about bringing stories that validate the depth, complexity, humor, grief, creativity, and expertise that already exist within disability communities and creating a space where those experiences can be heard directly, honestly, and without compromise. And we want YOU to submit!

October VAMP - "Dead to Me"

The spooky season is here. And we don’t mean the 2026 midterms.

We mean the petrified, the mortified, and the stupefied. We mean the things that go bump in the night … or the things that go bump in our relationships with others, our encounters with life, and our deepest darknesses.

November Long Story Short - "Parallel Thinking"

Have you ever been able to see the whole picture? Those rare moments when the universe just makes sense. So what if psychedelics were involved! That’s not cheating, that’s enhancing, as far as we’re concerned.

Tonight’s Long Story Short is all about disentangling the complicated, getting on the same page, and finding a path forward.

Or it’s about seeing weird s***, man. Either way, we want to hear those stories.

November VAMP - "Guest List"

Please take a deep breath. We are going to get through this holiday season together.

To be honest, though, this month’s VAMP doesn’t have to be about gathering around the dinner table and praying to whatever god you do or do not believe in that politics doesn’t get brought up.

But it’s not NOT about that either.

Bring us your stories on the guests that cross our paths. The people who come in and out of our lives, be they invited or otherwise.

Let’s hear it for the bean spillers and the tea spillers. The ones who dish it out and the ones who speak in hushed tones. But this month’s Long Story Short isn’t about the rumor mill or the gossip market. It’s a veritable grab-bag of truth telling.

In short? Dealer’s choice on what story you tell. Drop your name in the hat, take the mic, and spill it.

Try not to read too deep into the admittedly apocalyptic sounding nature of this month’s VAMP theme. We’re looking for stories on the fleeting, the ephemeral, the cursory. We’re looking for true tales of those moments and memories and relationships that come and go, never to return.

Or, yeah ok perhaps we’re looking for stories of The End. Whatever that means to you.

Let’s see what you got.

But you know, July’s LONG STORY SHORT doesn’t have to be JUST about the responsibility many humans in Western civilization feel to remove hair from their bodies.

I mean … it can be. That might be an interesting show.
